Physics-Technical Institute (PTI) Founded in 1943, the Physics-Technical Institute is one of the oldest research centers of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. It was the first in the country to explore fields such as physical electronics, solid-state physics, semiconductors, nuclear physics, and cosmic rays. A key feature of the institute is the Large Solar Furnace, a unique facility that became part of the Materials Science Institute in 1993.
